Goodbye to a Wonderful Father

My wonderful, wonderful father died today. He had had cancer for almost 5  years, but earlier this year he was well enough to go for walks and enjoy the sunshine. Then last month he caught a chest infection and became very ill. After 2 weeks in hospital he seemed to be improving and was expected to go home today. It wasn’t to be. We will miss him deeply, but I feel sure he is at peace now.

This photo was taken when he was 83 on top of “Arthur’s Seat” in Edinburgh. Six months previously he’d had a broken pelvis in a car accident.

I am so grateful to have had such a wonderful man for my father and for how well I grew to know him in his later years. My last post was: Thankful for My Father

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I certainly know how it feels as I lost my father many years ago. The pain never goes away, it just lessens with time. I hope that you have time to celebrate in his life and think about all the wonderful memories that you have. The last post was a beautiful one.

  2. A big hug to you and your family Yvonne. Losing your father no matter at what age is difficult. Stay strong. 🙂

I’m glad you got time to clear the air and learn to freely love your father. I miss not getting that opportunity the most. But I’m glad I learned from that and got to do it with my Mom 🙂

    1. Freya, thank you very much for your kind words. I’m sorry that you didn’t get to clear the air with your father, but how wonderful that you were able to learn from that and do it with your Mom.
